One Machine, Four Premium Finishes: A Closer Look at Huanan's Premium UV & Cold Foil Machine—and What Comes Next

2026-09-11

Premium packaging is judged before it is opened. A metallic logo catches the light, a textured panel invites touch, or a glossy detail creates contrast against a quieter background. For print businesses, however, producing decorative effects can also mean planning different processes, coordinating equipment and preparing samples that show customers what is possible.

Huanan Machinery's Premium UV & Cold Foil Machine is designed around a straightforward idea: bring several widely requested finishing effects into one machine family. The current Premium models support four functions—cold foil, wrinkle, snowflake and spot UV. Two formats are available, allowing buyers to select a machine according to sheet size, power requirements and installation space.

This article explains what each function contributes, how the two models differ, and what print buyers should consider before choosing a configuration. It also previews another Premium version now planned with a fifth function: Cast & Cure for sampling only.

Four Functions, Four Different Ways to Add Value

The value of a multifunction finishing machine is not simply the number of processes listed on a specification sheet. What matters is how those processes answer real design requests. A packaging customer may want a metallic brand mark, a tactile background, a frost-like pattern or a selectively glossy image. The four functions of the current Premium machine address these requirements in distinct ways.

1. Cold Foil for Metallic Decoration

Cold foil is used to place metallic foil on selected areas of a printed sheet. It can be applied to logos, lines, type, borders, patterns or other elements that need to reflect light and attract attention. This makes it relevant to premium cartons, labels, covers, cards and promotional work where a metallic accent is part of the visual identity.

2. Wrinkle Effect for Tactile Texture

The wrinkle function creates a deliberately textured UV surface. Instead of leaving the selected area uniformly smooth, the process forms an irregular decorative pattern that can be both seen and felt. Designers may use it as a background, a contrast area or a feature that reinforces a visual theme.

Texture matters because packaging is a physical medium. A buyer may first notice color and graphics, but touch can add another layer to the experience. Wrinkle effects can help separate one area from another without relying only on color. The exact appearance will vary with the varnish, artwork coverage, substrate and curing conditions, so production samples should be evaluated under realistic conditions.

3. Snowflake Effect for Crystalline Contrast

Snowflake finishing, sometimes described as a frost or ice-crystal effect, produces a fine decorative texture with a distinctive visual character. Depending on the design and material, it can resemble crystallization, a lightly frosted surface or a fine-grained pattern.

This effect can work well when a designer wants contrast without using a metallic finish. It may be applied to selected graphics or broader areas, according to the artwork. As with wrinkle finishing, the goal is not simply to cover the sheet. The value comes from using the texture in the right location and at the right scale so that it supports the overall packaging concept.

4. Spot UV for Selective Highlights

Spot UV places UV coating on chosen parts of the printed surface. It is commonly used to highlight a logo, image, text or pattern while leaving surrounding areas visually different. The contrast between coated and uncoated sections can make important details clearer and give the printed piece a more deliberate finish.

Two Premium Models for Different Sheet Formats

The Premium UV & Cold Foil Machine family currently includes the ZP-130-LT-2 and ZP-145-LT-2. Both models provide the same four finishing functions, but their sheet capacities, total power and machine dimensions differ.

The ZP-130-LT-2 handles sheets from 540 × 350 mm up to 1320 × 900 mm. Its total power is 62 kW, and the machine measures 6800 × 2850 × 2300 mm. This model is the more compact of the two and is suitable when the required work falls within its maximum sheet format.

The ZP-145-LT-2 also accepts a minimum sheet size of 540 × 350 mm, while increasing the maximum sheet size to 1450 × 1200 mm. Its total power is 70 kW, and its dimensions are 7500 × 3300 × 2300 mm. The larger format makes it the relevant option when planned jobs exceed the capacity of the ZP-130-LT-2.

Why a Multifunction Approach Matters

Print buyers increasingly need to show customers several finishing directions during product development. One design may call for cold foil, while another uses spot UV or a textured effect. A machine that supports multiple processes gives the producer a shared equipment platform for developing those different results.

A Preview of the Five-Function Premium Version

Huanan is also preparing another Premium version that adds Cast & Cure to the four established functions. The planned five-function configuration will therefore include cold foil, wrinkle, snowflake, spot UV and Cast & Cure.

The important qualification is that the Cast & Cure function on this upcoming version is intended for sampling only. It is designed to help users prepare effect samples, confirm artwork ideas and demonstrate a holographic-style transferred appearance to customers.

What to Prepare Before Requesting a Sample

A productive machine discussion starts with a realistic job. Buyers should prepare the substrate type, minimum and maximum sheet dimensions, artwork coverage, desired finish and expected order profile.

Bringing the Right Finish to the Right Product

The Premium UV & Cold Foil Machine is not defined by one decorative style. Its strength is the ability to support four different finishing approaches within the same product family. The forthcoming Premium version will widen the creative conversation with a fifth Cast & Cure function intended specifically for sampling, helping printers demonstrate a holographic-style concept and obtain customer feedback.
